Summer's Visit to DC: Pt. 3 wit-wit
How far would you go for a cheese steak? My sister flew almost 3000 miles cross country just to have a cheese steak from Pat's or Gino's in Philly. Of course we make a few side trips on the way there (Gettysburg and Lancaster), but we did make it. Since we had been having so much fun shopping in Lancaster we had to cut out any 'historical' tours in Philly and go straight to the cheese steaks.
We had warned Summy to get to Pat's and Gino's we were going to have to drive through some of the most 'ghetto' places she may have ever seen. (Just think about the Rocky movies...chain link fences, burning trash cans and cars on blocks. Then you will have an idea of the kind of neighborhood this is in.) As soon as we turned off the freeway and started our drive down Passyunk Ave. we heard a voice from the back seat singing "In the ghetto." Summer, yet again, was making us laugh so hard our eyes were watering!
This was also where we were able to introduce Summer to Birch Beer. It is a Dutch cousin to Root Beer. More red in color and a slightly different tease. We have converted her to BB! She said it wasn't nice of us to get her hooked on something she could not buy in Utah...but there is always the internet!?
Matt has always wanted to get a canolli from Termini Brother's Bakery. (Just down the street from Pat's and Gino's) However, every time we have been Termini has not been open. But as luck would have it they were open the day we were there. We got two vanilla and one chocolate and they were delicious. Summer almost left hers at our house when going to the airport...which would have been sad for her.
*Summer has been coached in the ways of "How to properly order a cheese steak." Ask her for a lesson sometime!
