A DC 4th of July...

We had a three second view of the fireworks on the Mall as we drove over 395 to take our exit home. Those three seconds were really spectacular! The rest of our DC 4th was pretty low key. We slept in, cleaned the house, tried to go to a movie. The line at the theater was so long...we would have been 30 minutes late for anything we wanted to see. So we bagged the movie and ran to the store to pick up groceries for a bbq later that evening. The bbq was held at the Barker home, they are some friends in our ward. It was organized by Brooke and Mark Studdert, more friends from the ward. There were about 9 couples and lots of little kids. The toddlers found the ice cream machine fascinating, and for a minute I thought we were going to have baby finger ice cream!? Once the ice cream was finished, the kids had fun eating and playing with the salt covered ice. I caught a cold for the 4th, so after the bbq wound down we just went home. We turned on the tv just in time for the PBS to conclude their broadcast of the DC fireworks. So we watched the NYC fireworks on NBC. Then we watched the rebroadcast of the Capitol Concert. When it was time to go to bed, Matt found the Nathan's Hot Dog eating championship on ESPN. It was hilarious to see how serious these people are about "professional eating." One guy had the name..."The Axis of Eating." The 'show' was more entertaining than the contest! We could defiantly see this as a Christopher Guest (Best in Show, A Mighty Wind) movie coming of this sometime in the future. If you catch a rerun on tv, it is worth the 12 minutes to stop and watch.
