The 6th Graders at East Meadows are given the opportunity to run for student council. If you are interested, you fill out a paper and turn it in and then the field is narrowed down by the faculty. Brendan was selected from that group to be one of 15 student council members! Then each of the 15 students run for one of 5 offices. Brendan had to make 2 posters to hang in the school and come up with a one minute speech to woo students into voting for him. His slogan was Brendan Bakker. I've got your back!
His speech was great! It was his idea and he brought down the house! You can watch it here:
At the end of the day, after the students had voted and the votes were tallied, they announced the officers. I happened to be at the school bringing Carson something, so I got to hear the announcement! President, Brendan's friend Jarom. Vice Pres, Courtney. Secretary, Riley. Reporter: BRENDAN!!! Treasurer, Amberly. I was SO excited that Brendan was chosen as an officer!
Here is the article that was in the Daily Herald:
Students at East Meadows Elementary recently chose the student council for the 2011-2012 year. The student council represents and serves the school in a variety of capacities. They will do morning announcements, learn about service-project opportunities and come up with ideas to help improve the school. Those chosen to be on the student council got a little bit of campaign experience as they tried for various positions. They shared their talents and let us know how they could best serve the school. Congratulations to this year's school council: Lorin Wyss; Emily Colton; Megan Vehar; Jarom Jones, President; Brendan Bakker, Reporter; Brayden Jackson; Allison Davis; Jordyn Ellefsen; Cody Frandsen; Ryan Berger; Courtney Andersen, Vice President; Tanner Peterson; Riley Warren, Secretary; Matthew Munson; and Amberly Perrins, Treasurer.
